Things I have accomplished this week:
1. Gave myself a stress induced fever
2. Became sleep deprived
3. Turned 21
4. Drank too much wine and four loko
In the next 65 hours or so, I have three midterms. The moment my last midterm is over, I'll be rushing over to pick up my rental car and heading down south. Hopefully for some adventures. Definitely for some fried food, seafood, country roads, mountains and ocean. Thursday can't come quick enough and I'm more restless than I thought possible. I'm thirsting for some sunshine and seersucker.
I'll report back soon.

Done with the Doldrums
This winter has been 100% discombobulating to a kid like me, who enjoys climatic consistency. I never bother to check the weather during winter since it's guaranteed to be frigid each day, but these last few months have shattered my delusions of what winter is. I think in total there's been about 2 weeks of snow. It just keeps snowing and melting and snowing again. Right now we're in the throes of an unseasonably warm melted period. Today when I woke up, the sun was shining in merrily through my window, the sky was blue and the outside world looked entirely enticing. My roommate and I were lured outside by the inviting outside world, we hopped on our bikes (I hadn't really thought of riding my bike before this weekend. It's February. February does not equate leisure cycling in my world) and went down to the river for an adventure. There's no better feeling than a sunny day after a few grey, gloomy months.

There are few things better than writing a letter to a friend.
Perhaps there is only one thing better; receiving a letter in return.
Mail Related Thoughts:
I got your card in the mail yesterday, Bets! It made me ever so happy.
I've been thinking about the letter I sent my pen pal in August that was never replied to. I think I'll write another one. It could have been lost on the journey overseas.
I bought this book of letters last week.
I'm eyeing Letters to a Young Poet as my next read.
I subscribed to this two days ago. Very excited to receive my first correspondence.
"Letter writing is the only device for combining solitude with good company" - Lord Byron
I like this quote, mostly because I find it true. Writing letters makes me feel simultaneously sociable and reclusive.

Down by the River
It had seemed as close as a star to the moon
Now it was again a green light on a dock
His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one.

I spend a lot of time on this dock, yet somehow the enchantment never wears thin. -Bets.

Midnight Moonrise
This idea of romanticizing the past immediately reminded me of Midnight in Paris. The premise of this movie would essentially be my dream come true. Being transported to Paris in the 1920's would be quite a magical experience (biggest understatement EVER), as many of my favourite authors and artists were all creating masterpieces there at the same time. Unfortunately the film does remind you that everyone has these thoughts and wishes and no one is entirely content with the present.
"Nostalgia is denial - denial of the painful present... the name for this denial is golden age thinking - the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one ones living in - its a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present." -Paul
"That's what the present is. It's a little unsatisfying because life is unsatisfying." -Gil
Since time travel is likely impossible and obsessions aren't incredibly healthy I think I'll just keep appreciating past aesthetics from afar. Speaking of which, I'm currently counting down the days until Moonrise Kingdom hits the theatres. I almost wish I hadn't stumbled across the trailer because my excitement is already getting the best of me. Damn you Wes Anderson! Well I guess I'll go google image Royal Tenenbaums and Virgin Suicides now to get my fill of the seventies saturated film colouring that I love so dearly. I hope I last until May. -Bets.

lost generation.
I'm reading this book right now and wondering - will people ninety years from now look back and wish they'd lived today? Will wistful twenty year olds read books about the early 2000s and think they were born too late?
